Your new inner fender covers
are a unique accessory designed to fit directly to your trucks fender
ridge. In order to enjoy these custom parts it will be necessary to
perform some modifications to the battery tray/trays as well as the air
filter box. You will also need to lower the fuse box on the 2006
models
Your inner fender covers come
to you with a protective liner. Do not remove liner until installation
is complete.
-
Let’s begin with the
battery tray. You will notice that there are two bolts mounting the
battery tray to the top of the fender. Remove these bolts. NOTE:
These will not be reused. The two black plastic battery tray
brackets that 90 over the top of the fender will need to be trimmed
off the tray. The fastest and easiest way to do this is with a
common shop cut off wheel. Simply shave the top of these brackets
off so that they are flush with the top of the fender. Your battery
tray has many other bolts that will keep it secure without the need
for these two brackets. If your truck is equipment with two battery
trays repeat this step for the opposite side.
-
The 2006 models fuse box
is snapped into a bracket. Using a screw driver release the taps
securing the fuse box and allow the entire box to lower just enough
to allow the new cover to fit flush to the top of the fender ridge.
The fuse bow itself is attached to several heavy harnesses which
will cause the fuse box to remain stable even though it is detached.
-
Your trucks air filter
box has a long black plastic bracket that extends to the radiator
support rail and is bolted there. You will notice that this bracket
is very thick leading out to the bolt. Using your cut off wheel
shave the bracket so that it appears flush to the part of the
bracket that is bolted to the radiator support. This will create a
level plane which will allow the new cover to lie nice and flush
with the bracket and when done correctly your new cover will
completely conceal this modification.
-
Starting with the drivers
side remove the front and rear fender bolts (and also the washer
fluid cap on the SRT 10.) Carefully place the drivers’ side fender
cover down into the engine bay so that the large notch diagonally
slides under the master cylinder reservoir. Allow the cover to slip
between the upper radiator hose (and over the washer fluid tank neck
on the SRT 10.) Line up the two front and rear fender holes and
secure the new fender in place using the two large thumb screws
provided. The passenger side goes in much the same way except that
it will need to be jostled under the air box in order to allow the
cover to set in place properly. It may be necessary to manipulate
the A/C fill line so that it lines up nicely to the hole provided
for it in the new 1500 panel. It is made of aluminum and you will be
able to nudge it around to where you need it to be. On the SRT 10
model release the a/c line retainers and force the line down low
enough to allow the cover to sit overtop of this a/c line.
-
(Perform this step only
if you have our false firewall installed) You have been provided
with two Velcro self stick aluminum brackets. These brackets are to
be used with our false firewall. Simply indicate the resting
position of the new fender cover to the firewall using a length of
masking tape. Be sure to mark both ends of the fender cover. Remove
the fender cover. Apply a single swipe of adhesive promoter provided
just under the tape line. Remove the red release liner from the back
of the brackets and place them so that they are about 1 1/8” below
the tape line and centered to the left and right marks made earlier
of the fender position. Remove the attached Velcro half and apply it
to the underside of the fender cover be sure to use a swipe of
adhesive promoter before applying this Velcro half. Reinstall
covers.
-
SRT 10 KIT ONLY: You
have been provided with a specially shaped chrome washer fluid cap.
To install this cap scrub the top of the factory yellow cap with
household rubbing alcohol first to remove and dirt and grime. Then
swipe the yellow cap once with the adhesive promoter provided. Next
you will notice that the cap has a Velcro cookie attached to the
underside. Detach the cookie half and apply it to the factory cap.
Then simple place the chrome cap onto the Velcro cookie.
-
Remove protective liner.
If any questions occur during
installation, please contact American Car Craft at 727 861-1500.
Note:
Care must be taken when cleaning your covers. It is a good idea to
lightly dust your covers with a clean soft cloth first in order to
prevent any particles from scratching them. Then wipe (using a new clean
soft cloth) with a good quality streak free glass cleaner.
